The Canopy Project
The Canopy Project, conceived and pioneered by Egret Communications, is a tourism development project that reflects state of the art sustainable tourism principles. This project has been engineered to accomplish several economic, social, and conservation goals for a region transitioning from a timber-dependent economy to a more balanced economic approach.  The Canopy Project seeks to develop infrastructure to take visitors into the canopy of the region's spectacular ancient coastal rainforests. It will help visitors from across the nation and world better understand and appreciate the complexity of the rainforest ecosystem.  In the process, it will anchor the region's tourism economy, encourage destination travel, lengthen the tourism season, and generate a number of direct jobs.  The same project will enable research in the canopy. Visitors will be able to watch - and in some cases, participate - in the research process.  Egret Communications came up with the original concept for this project and has worked at all levels (community to White House) and all phases of this exciting project. The project received the 1999 ASLA Award.
